Sony's UK boss Ray Maguire has compounded widespread rumours that the company is working on a redesigned PSP by saying the current version is only the "first iteration".
Speaking at the launch of Sony's PSP in Education - an initiative to get Sony consoles into the classroom - Maguire was asked whether there were any plans to change the handheld's somewhat bulky, heavy current form. He responded by saying that in light of the company's previous redesigns of both the PSone and PS2, it was certainly possible that Sony would make a more streamlined PSP.
However, this recent announcement flies in the face of comments by Sony officials at last week's GDC, who told IGN that the PSP wasn't in need of a DS Lite-style makeover and that the system won't be physically altered.
In light of Maguire's comments, a Sony spokesperson told us: "In the long term, we are always looking at ways to continue our platform development, and this normal business practice is what Ray was referring to."
